Right, so Thursday, be there or be somewhere else. I know, not much of a threat. But I'm making food, and my house is ever so easy to get to, and we have convinced [livejournal.com profile] tanaise that it was in her best interest to show up. So. Come! There will be italian food and smores. Do show up.

EDIT: um, well, I'm guessing food type serving will start at 4ish or 5ish. People can get there earlier if they so desire.

Right, so life's been busy. Was up in MA again for several days, got to see family, a couple friends, [livejournal.com profile] cissa got the most Andrea-time this visit, which was most fun!!! Then I came back, and I need to get my place in order for the party I'm having on Thursday (for anyone who missed that, hi, I'm andrea and I'm having a party. Do come) which may take a bit of work. Oh, and working overtime sucks. But it's all good. Year-end is nearly really over. I have stuff to do still, but... whatever. This is not the year-end wrap up post. Who knows if I'll even do one. Maybe at Chinese New Year. It's going to be the year of the monkey!!! Anyway, on to the contest...

So for a while I've wanted a tattoo. But deciding on the design and where it should go and the money situation have prevented me from getting anywhere. And I don't tend to like my own art. So, artisty type people, here's what I'm looking for... I would like a somewhat stylized sun with a spiral in the center. A celtic-y spiral thing. Ready? Go! Design me something! I can't promise to use it but I'm hopeful. The winner will get something appropriate to them. Really. All copyrights will remain kept by the artist, though obviously I'd like permission to use it at least once. Thank you.
podling: (tada! doozer!)
So I wanted to shout out a big thank you to y'all who sent me cards!!! Oddly, most of them were from space weasels. You rock, all y'all!

I'm a bit under the gun at work here (and will be leaving for MA either tonight or tomorrow morning, busy busy!!!), but if'n I get time, I shall write to each and every person. But I wanted to let you know I appreciated them!

Seriously, I've been so busy I didn't even talk about my fun trip to DC and going to the Masonic memorial thing. Or about the things I bought, and the one early christmas present from my mom which is oh-too-cool. Or about [livejournal.com profile] astrophysicat visiting, or about the set finally being done, and how fun the show was!!! But no... I have work to do. Bah! Well, at least today is the end of the work week...
podling: (lego me)
Okay, so I was listening to John Denver & The Muppets A Christmas Together and there's the story of Alfie the Christmas Tree, right, and he mentions the phrase, "Brotherhood of man". And even though this is supposed to be a good thing, I still think that phrase just sounds rather sinister.

Maybe there's a link in my head to the x-men, and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. (oh, I'm sorry, Brotherhood of Mutants (who do evil things)). Either way, "Brotherhood of Man" sounds like a secret society bent on world domination. Say it out loud, like you're a newscaster, you'll see what I mean. Yeah.
podling: (Default)
So really, why is the, "You live in NJ, what exit?" thing supposed to be funny??? I don't get it at all.
podling: (lots of doozers working...)
Eep! So, I mean, I knew that christmas day was around the corner. I also knew I had a lot of work to do before then (and by that, I mean, work-work, as opposed to cleaning my house work, which also needs to be done, but it less income making). But it only just hit me that yeah, that means I have 4 work days to do it all in. Someone kill me now.
podling: (i saw the sun shining through a lattice)
So, um, like, I was thinking of having a dinnerish-type thing then. Low key, relaxed, hanging about. On New Year's Day, that is. Like, starting at 2pm, probably eating closer to 4ish. Featuring italian food probably, utilizing my newly honed cooking skillz (okay, so I only learned how to make, like, 2 things, but still) and possibly testing out the fondue thing. If anyone wants to come, let me know so I can vaguely plan how much to cook. If anyone wants to bring someone or thinks there's someone I should say, "yo, come over" to, let me know that too. :)

I was going to email people, but I keep getting sidetracked, and this seemed like a good compromise. Come to my house! There'll be a roaring fire maybe even (we have the technology). Ooh! Marshmallows! We'll have roasted marshmallows for desert!

Oh, and I just realized I'll have from New Year's till the next week free of work concerns. So. There'll be leftovers and stuff that weekend and maybe movies. Woo!
podling: (b&w)
The snow is gone, seems like a distant dream of whiteness. So sad. Always forget that it goes away so quickly around here... But then again, it's just like everything else. Change happens. Quickly sometimes. Except that everything else tends not to necessarily melt.

I'm a big fat whiny whiner!!! )

Something odd from yesterday... I went to a lunch holiday party in the penthouse of the Millenium Hilton at the WTC. 55th floor, quite a view. It left me feeling pretty weird. all in all. I can't really explain why or how. I'm on that corner every day, but actually looking down onto the construction is something else entirely.

Anyway, so the set I've been working on since Thanksgiving is just about done. The show opens tomorrow. And though there are things I would continue working on, things that could be done better, I absolutely adore this set. I did good. Maybe I will bribe someone to take pics. I really should get a digital camera.

Tonight I'm going to DC to visit [livejournal.com profile] tanaise's ex-roommate and hang with her for the weekend. I am greatly looking forward to this. It will be fun! Perhaps I should print out directions to her house. Hmmn. Maybe if I'm lucky whilst I'm there I'll find something to give my brother for Christmas while I'm there. Read all about my shallow materialistic side here... )

In other news, the 5th copy of the 'Dance Monkey Dance!!!' was give out yesterday. And the extended monkey mix is also available, though that's more a work in progress. Oh, and most people will hate it. It helps me paint though, the basic requirement for the mix is the tempo.

And next weekend I will have houseguests! It's kind of odd, I've been less social lately, and haven't really had too many people over. So this will be fun, different, and holiday-cheer making. :)
podling: (tada! doozer!)
Stole this from someone, [livejournal.com profile] ravenswing90 more specifically...

The results surprised me... Kermit? I'm not so sure about that one... )

It's true though, I guess I do sometimes wave my arms about maniacally...

Right, so it took me FOREVER to get home on Friday. Everyone needs a major catastrophe buddy, and I have found mine. I finally get on a bus, and who sits next to me but the guy who sat next to me on the last ride from hell, the day of the big blackout. But this time, not only does he have excedrin migraine pills, he also has a crossword for us to do! He thought ahead. I also thought ahead, and brought hershey kisses.

So we start on the crossword. But the Friday crossword is kind of hard, and it's taking us forever... and sometime in the second hour we start calling people, asking them if they know the answers to clues (special thanks to Celia, who looked up a river for us, though her insistence that we should stop cheating was wrong!). About then was when we realized that we were stuck in the most boring Twilight Zone (or Outer Limits, for those with a preference) episode ever! It became obvious that we wouldn't arrive home until we finished it. The third hour passed, we still weren't done. Sea swan? What the hell is that? Now you're just making up words... And then! After only 3 hours and 15 minutes, we finish!!! Yay!

Five minutes later, we arrive at our final destination. We were right...

I had this giant purple bouncy ball that [livejournal.com profile] astrophysicat bought one day at the grocery store when I was being all, "We need a giant purple bouncy ball for a picnic!!!" Anyway, I also have a big purple exercise ball, and found having two giant purple balls in the house kind of overkill. So I decided to rid myself of the regular one. But what to do? I want it to be enjoyed, not just tossed into the trash! And I don't really know that many kids or people with kids. So I took the giant purple bouncy ball and put a note on it that said, "Free to a good home" and left it on the landing outside my door. Less than an hour later, it was gone. Farewell, big purple bouncy ball, I hope the home that found you is indeed a good one...
podling: (tada! doozer!)
Let's see... there was dinner with [livejournal.com profile] straif and his wife (whose LJ name I don't recall offhand) which was lovely and most fun, and included the hand-off of the 'dance monkey dance!!!' mix cd, and then more family time (in the bar). Then there was a lesson in actual Italian cooking. And yes, now I can make pizza/bread dough and gnocchi from raw ingredients!!! Next time I hope to learn the ravioli techniques. Next time, I'd also like to actually manage to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] cissa, among others. It was a bummer, but I will be back in a few weeks.

So then we come to the last part... the high school reunion! )

And there came a kind of revelation from on high )

And I hit no traffic coming back to NJ!!! It's a miracle. I didn't even get stuck in Waterbury staring at the evil clocktower (which I think is actually a first). I even unpacked my car! Well, except for the logs. I'm kind of procrastinating there... So I go back to work, one of the cooks asks me where I've been, I ask him if he missed me and he says, "Every night, I couldn't sleep!" Good to be back, oh yes, but I really did have a good time in MA.
podling: (b&w)
It's been mixed, honestly. I expected to see/hang out with, more friends, and instead have ended up hanging with/seeing mostly family. Extended family even. And this is both good and bad. Why bad, yo? )

But so, I saw cousins that I haven't seen in years, then ran into another one at a bar (actually, every time I've seen this boy it's been at a bar, but I digress). I also managed to spend some time with my brother (also at a bar, but he works there), which... i love my brother 'cause he's cool )

Let's see... highlights. concert stuff, baybee!!! )

Ode to Television )

Then this other freaky thing just happened at 1:30 am )

So... still up to go. Hanging with friends. Will hopefully see one or two people that I didn't *quite* manage to actually make advance plans with. Then going to spend some time learning how to make pizza dough with my grandmother. Then the high school reunion. That should be interesting...

A kids show that I did no work on just ended. So I'm at the theater for a pre-production meeting in the same room, they haven't torn down the set yet. Trees that I'd painted months ago were used as the main backdrop (which I'd already known). Then I notice that there's a rock wall that I painted for last years Christmas show. And I remark, "What, is this whole set made of things I painted for other shows?" and someone responds, "Basically, yeah, but it's okay, we listed you in the program." I find it very strange that I'm listed as having worked on a show that I did nothing for. I mean, yes, I did the painting, but months ago! Still, it's nice to be acknowledged. They claim they've gotten compliments on my stuff, which is very nice indeed. :)

And now I've started painting the new set. I have paint on my fingernails, it never comes off. It's times like this when I almost think I'm an artiste!

So, after our little adventure in thwartedness, [livejournal.com profile] jennywrenn and I went to McDs in Penn Station. Woo! Penn Station. Anyway, so they have this small seating area that has walls that are completely made of metal. Kind of like the outside of a metal steamer trunk. Right, so it's eerie quiet in there, even with people in their. We sit down and have this conversation...

me: "This place reminds me of something."

her: "That the aliens are preprogramming us?"

me: "No, I think I was here in a dream... being probed."

Such a short time till Thanksgiving... figured I should post my travel plans. I will be in MA for a goodly long time, arriving next Monday afternoon and staying until Sunday. While there, I plan to do things, see people, etc. If you'd like to get in on this, do let me know. I have some plans already (little things, high school reunion, concert, drinks with la familia extended, etc), but there's still open slots.

On to the other thoughts... only 7 years ago I spent Thanksgiving in the Caribbean with one of my very best friends. This is where I mark the true beginning of my independent thinking for myself. My dad forbid me to go (though how one forbids their college aged child who lives in another state is another story) and my reply was the following, "Yeah, well, I have a ticket in my hand that says I'm going, and a passport in the other!" And oddly, I've never regretted this, even given all the flack I had to put up with for being gone for Thanksgiving. Really though, unless I have a really good reason, I will try to never miss another Thanksgiving at my parents (even if I don't like the stuffing all that much).

But still... looking at the pictures earlier today, it was just so gorgeous! Maybe it's the plant scientist in me talking. I'm not really a history person, but it's all over there, pirate things, shipping stories, etc. There are so many places I'd like to travel to, and yet, should I have a choice, I'll go back there first opportunity. Maybe spend more time in the British Virgin Islands this time. But wow. It's been 7 years!!! 7 years!!! I was 21 then!!! It was the first time I ever snorkeled really, or hitchhiked, or hitchhiked on a boat, sailing around a tropical island. I think I may even still have a few shells I purloined. I still have the rug I bought there, as well as a painting. They mean so much to me. And some of the memories... lying about in a private home listening to live harp music while looking out over a bay on St. Thomas at sunset... wow!!! Life was slower there, and for that alone I'd like to escape from NYC and NJ. One day, oh yes, one day. I long to escape! But that whole condo-buying extravaganza has left it's mark on my travel plans.

Oh, and next time, I will either bring proper camping gear or stay at a hotel. What? You live and you learn...
podling: (lone doozer)
Hmmn. I keep getting spam about housing in North Brunswick, some with my old old address included. I haven't lived there in almost 3 years now!!! Where are they getting this from??? And why won't they leave me alone???

(side note: check out the speed of the hamster)
