At about 7 a.m. I was in my car listening to the radio. They were broadcasting live from a bar in NYC. Then they said, "There's still plenty of time to get down here..." I don't know. There's something about trying to get to a bar by 7 a.m. that just strikes me as odd.

In other news, we're serving Chinese food today.
podling: (tada! doozer!)
On Sunday I had some oddness with fast food places. During the second experience, they tried to give our order to someone else. I'm glad those people were paying attention. But it's the first experience that has me looking for a different local Dunkin Donuts. See, I moved during the summer, and so the one I used to go to, with it's crew of way cool happy little Peruvian women is probably the 3rd or 4th closest now. So I go to the one in Monmouth Junction, I was in a hurry, this seemed like an okay plan. Here's what happened...

It's around 1pm. First I wait. There are three or four people working there. There are two customers there. For some reason, their orders are taking a while. Eventually I get served.

Workerguy: What would you like?

Me: Egg 'n cheese on a plain bagel.

Workerguy hesitates... then: No plain. Wheat?

I look and say: I'll take poppyseed.

Workerguy stares at me for 20 seconds or so: So you want a poppyseed bagel?

Me: Yes.

Workerguy hesitates again... : Toasted?

Me: No. Not necessary.

Workerguy: What did you want again?

Me: Egg & cheese.

Him: Nothing else?

Me: No.

He goes away for several minutes, comes back with my stuff. Asks me if I'd like anything else.

Me: Yeah, I'd like a lemonade coolata.

Workerguy: We don't have that flavor.

Me: It's on the menu.

Workerguy stares at me.

Me: I'll get a soda then.

Workerguy continues to stare at me. So I go get a soda and bring it back, as he obviously can't ring it up otherwise (unlike every other Dunkin Donuts, oddly).

Workerguy: Would you like anything else?

Me: No. (though as a matter of fact, I did want munchkins, to share with the people working on the play, but I didn't think asking him to count out fifty munchkins would be really worth it. Plus it would've taken forever.)

Workerguy: That'll be $x.

Me: So why is it on the menu if you don't serve it?

Workerguy hands me my change.

I walk out, possibly never to return.

Afterward, someone suggested that maybe it was a front, and if I'd asked for say... salsa... on my egg & cheese, that I'd've gotten drugs with it. But I somehow doubt this.

I had this dream that enabled me to wake up on time. Mostly because it was vaguely unpleasant and weird. It was kind of like Groundhog Day combined with a bad cheesy horror/drama. In it, I had 4 siblings (!) and my older brother got hit in the head with an asteroid and turned malevolent. He wasn't actually a zombie, but he'd decided he needed to kill us all. It was kind of gruesome. Plus, I'd seen the movie, I knew how it ended (hello, no survivors), and I was trying *desperately* to change the outcome, and it so wasn't working. I think this was partially brought on by reading an article about and then pondering the story of Dawn of the Dead before bed. The zombies have eaten my brain.

I've seen all kinds of people doing this, so I figured, why not?Call me Bob )

I think that covers it all, more or less...

Missed a couple... )

1. I was wrong.

2. The podmobile is apparently not broken. Woo!

3. Not only did I get a raise, but I got paid for the unused sick time from last year. Baby's going to buy a new cd!!!

4. I got my shirt from the International Male catalog. I look like a pirate in it. And it came with a coupon for my next order! I'm contemplating a gauze shirt to wear at the beach. I'm going to wear the pirate shirt to work tomorrow. I'm going out for a drink after work with someone who regularly shops from the catalog, and he wants to see how it looks in real life (even if it's not on a man, which he'd prefer).

5. I'm going to be introduced to a colleague tomorrow while wearing a pirate shirt!!!

6. I broke yet another set of headphones. I moped for a bit. Now I have a new set, courtesy of a friend with too many. Life is good once again. I should perhaps start working at a company that makes headphones.

7. My name is Andrea, and I'm fast becoming a DDR addict.

8. I think I see the fascination with that game Rez, the one with the vibrator (though I played it without the attachment). [livejournal.com profile] littlefrogling, you do really need it. Really. As well as the game Bombastic, which is the new Devil Dice.

9. Theatrical events are going well. Midway into the run of the one I'm stage crewing, and have another half day or so of work on the set of another show.

10. Blair lives on a houseboat now. Take note of this, people who are friends of Blair.

11. I got this relatively random email from a friend... well, he's midway between acquaintance and friend I guess. Anyway, it said hi and basically that he'd been away and would write a longer letter later. What's weird about this is that this type of message probably accounts for three quarters of the times I hear from him. This kind of amuses me, in a weird sort of way.

12. I'm feeling antsy, needing to be traveling, but the funding to travel afar is missing. My weekly (lately) trips to Philly have helped, and I'll be going to visit the parents soon, and I'll be in Chicago in May. So perhaps I should chill, but I still want to go adventuring...

13. I went for an appointment with my new doctor, who is so much amazingly way better than the last one. And she's got dermatographia, leaving me with less need to actually explain about it. Went for a blood test yesterday, will know soon if I need to be on drugs.

14. I'm reading this book that keeps cracking me up, called A Pilgrim's Digress. It's actually made me think, as well as be amused.

Good news... pay raise went through, retroactively even.

Bad news... it's looking increasingly likely that this is the day (though it could be tomorrow).
podling: (tada! doozer!)
I did say I'd talk about the weekend...

First there was 'The Station Agent' with [livejournal.com profile] nanne. I hate the Angelika. I hate normal old theaters. I like stadium seating. I'm short. The movie was good though. Pretty much everything I've seen there I've liked. So, Angelika=bad, films shown there=good. Seriously, the movie was very good. I didn't feel a sense of resolution at the end, but that's not such a bad thing. It was about a train loving midget in NJ! What's not to love?

Anyway, moving on... [livejournal.com profile] shirleym's fabulous chocolate party was fabulous indeed!!! I had a great time. Lovely. Excellent food! Excellent people! Excellent music! And what's funny is that I'm not really a huge chocolate lover. I know it's wrong! But when [livejournal.com profile] shirleym makes chocolate stuff, it's something else entirely. It rocked!!! And I'm always happy to see everyone who goes to the parties. Weird to think I've been to either 4 or 5 of the chocolate parties now...

[livejournal.com profile] crowyhead came up overnight for the party. I found her wandering around at Princeton Junction. Actually, the fact that I found Princeton Junction in itself was impressive, given that the only other time I'd been there, I'd accidentally taken the train. Anyway, back to [livejournal.com profile] crowyhead, I do so love her. Everytime we hang out it's fabulous. And she played DDR with me. I'm an addict now, though I've been too busy to play every day. She's halfway there. After we left the chocolate party we went home and played for two hours (finishing at 1:30 a.m., when we were too tired to have any kind of coordination). Yay! for sugar highs!

Then on Sunday, after I dropped off [livejournal.com profile] crowyhead in Philly, I headed over to the theatre, where I had my first ever paid painting gig. That's right, I'm now a PAID artist!!! As in, someone actually paid me. No, really. It's quite shocking. And they even liked what I did and how it came out. Go me! Woo! In the confusion of being paid, I agreed to do stage crew for the show. I probably would've agreed to anything they asked, honestly. But so this week has been all about rehearsals, and this weekend and the next 2 weekends are busy for a couple hours on Friday and Saturday eves, then for part of Sunday afternoons. So anyone who wants to hang with me needs to work around that. What? No one? :p

This weekend... other than the play (which people should go see, because it's funny) I would like to go see 'Starsky & Hutch'. Anyone? Anyone? ;)
podling: (i saw the sun shining through a lattice)
So I've not been posting much, but I have been reading (and very occasionally commenting) and I saw several people do the 'this time last year' type meme. So I looked back last Friday, not intending to actually post, just to see, and approximately a year ago, I was bitching about my car being broken again.

What's particularly ironic about that is that on Friday, my car was broken AGAIN. It's fixed now. (Probably temporarily, knowing how these things go)

Where I talk about people... )

Oh, Public Service Announcement... and I'm going to be in Chicago in May. People who live there... Hang out with me!
podling: (lone doozer)
In a way, I'm glad that John Edwards didn't win the primaries. Everytime I heard anything about him, I automatically thought first of the psychic.

So on Tuesday, the server told me I only had 14 days left with my password. Today, it tells me I have 8. Where did the other 2 days go?

Oh, and as I commented in someone else's journal (which I think is friends-only, so I'm not going to pimp) I believe that this phrase is possibly one of the most awkward in any 80s pop song. "Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti"
podling: (lego me)
Last night I had a dream. I'm not going to really go into much detail, but it involved me on a motorcycle going to a HUUUUUGE movie theater where I could see anything I wanted. Wish fulfillment much?
podling: (tada! doozer!)
So this morning I'm pulling into the parking lot at the train station, at least 5 minutes before the train is supposed to leave (woo! perhaps it's a new trend! I could make the train *every* day!) and this guy in a Lexus SUV cuts both me and the guy in the sports car who up until a second before that had been directly in front of me (we were both turning in different directions, and the SUV guy was totally being stupid, I mean, NO ONE drives that fast across the tracks in that area (I drive fast generally, and wouldn't even consider it, for instance)). A 3 car accident was barely averted, in other words.

Was I angry? No. Kind of amused actually (probably adrenalized relief?), and the first thing I thought was what I would say to him if I parked next to him... "So should I call you Mr. Dumbass or Mr. Dumas?"

ps. I was also wishing that I somehow could get a car that was normal length but narrow, so I could fit into some of the parking spots there. I don't know who painted the lines at the lot, but they should be smacked upside the head.
podling: (b&w)
I looked at my journal and realized it's been just over 2 weeks since I posted anything of my own. Several reasons... I've been busy busy at work catching up from my vacation and taking care of stuff there, plus I've kind of been retreating into myself more lately. Spending a lot of time thinking on the deeper issues of life, and also whether I actually want to talk about them here or not (filters or no as well). About friends, family, love, money, etc. I'm not sure I will. I mean, I can go on and on, and I probably should curb that.

The funny thing is that I keep thinking of things I could post, like when it was raining the other day and I realized I had accidentally grabbed the umbrella with little holes in it from when I used it as a shield in a water gun river fight. Luckily it wasn't raining hard. And how I still sometimes think, "Shields up!!!" when I unfurl an umbrella. But then I get to work and there's stuff to do...

But so, the updatey type stuff... So the podmobile went on it's first roadtrip post-surgery and handled it beautifully. Vermont is so gorgeous. Managed to ski one day and snowmobile for the first time ever! Nice to spend time in a hot tub on a mountainside once again with friends I rarely see. Coming back to NJ was kind of sad, but hey, I did choose this. I should've planned better so I could visit my parents too, but my mom at least will be visiting this weekend, which is cool.

Other things... I think I'm getting a raise this week. My commute hasn't been *wonderful* exactly, but it's definitely shorter, and for that I am grateful. I explored some of the backroads near my house, I'm not really sure I'll ever have it mapped in my head. My place really does seem more like home now that I've spent more time in it. Oh, and I finished Wolves of the Calla and was so randomly absorbed into it, now to find out when the next part comes out...

And now, for the first time in quite a while, I will be going home on time. Woo!
podling: (lots of doozers working...)
Today, I hate life. A lot. It's a good thing I started exercising again, because if I hadn't, the stress I'm feeling would be a constant.

Next week, I will be enjoying life. Elsewhere. Thankfully. I can't wait.
podling: (lone doozer)
Speaking of snow donuts, I was reminiscing about my first time, at the tender age of... I'll assume 17, though it might've been 16... that I did donuts. It was in the 'tiac, my beaten up and beaten on first car. The car that eventually started stalling every time I turned the wheel. I was driving that car when all the dials spun to zero (it had passed 100K, I guess). But after that, that winter was the first time I performed snow tricks, controlled (barely) donuts and fishtailing. Mostly this was done at the insistence of my younger brother (who also lit a pack of matches in the backseat of said car once) and I remember it terrifying one of my friends. Though I should note that most of my other friends were all about getting in a car with me. Ah, childhood... sweet, sweet childhood. Sadly, I don't think the area that I live in now is really conducive to doing this sort of thing...
podling: (Default)
How wrong is it that the first thing I thought when in my newly fixed car was, "Cool! I can do donuts in the snow!!!"
podling: (i saw the sun shining through a lattice)
I'd almost gotten used to driving the oversized go-kart automatic rental car. And I'd almost forgotten what it was like to be able to listen to anything but the light 'n easy station. But then, from on high, a call to action! You can pick your car up! It wasn't easy, but it's done. A rather large charge bill later, and the podmobile is back and in action!!! (Well, at the moment it's parked at the train station, but still, you know what I mean) My baby is back! Woo! It's gone 73,000 miles with me, and will be going several more now too.

Note for Cara and other owners of '99 Saturn SL1s )

I would like to take this opportunity to thank those poor unfortunate people who were duped willing to help me get to and from the mechanic & rental car place.

FIRE!!!! )

And now for something really dumb that I did )

And in other news (though this might classify as a stupid thing I've done too), it took me *forever* to get to work today. The icy crystalline snow of last night has been replaced by big fat flakes, but it was still all puffy on my car and the roads were... well, how they are in NJ when it snows. Then there was a switch problem (of course, how very unusual). Hopefully going home will be more simple.
podling: (Default)
And the correct falsehood was the mp3 player one. C'mon now, do you really think I would hurt the source of my music??? It is my favorite thing. Really. If anything, I'd destroy the headphones for their continuing failure to please me, but never the player.

And for all the people who answered NJ Transit, a woman said to me, "Did you just jump on the train while it was moving?" and we chatted for a few minutes about it. Heh.

My new week's resolutions (and I'm thinking I should do this every week) is to... make the train on time in the mornings (which I might want to go to sleep before 1:30 am for, just a thought); not hit anything or anyone with a motor vehicle (even if said vehicle is annoyingly automatic and drives kind of like a go-kart); get my car, my baby, my podmobile fixed; work more; work out more; find more firewood.
podling: (Good)
[Poll #230800]

Hmmn. I forgot to say that I also got to work on time, just in time to find out I had a deadline of 1 hour for something that should take 2 to do with complete accuracy...
