ah yes, I stand corrected -- sliced bread was the best thing since the wheel, and the wheel was the best thing since fire. Hmm . . . wonder where the printing press fits in there . . .
Peeled oranges: humans ate oranges before they ate were able to make bread - therefore the thought to peel them instead of just biting in them must have been Nobel type stuff. And it is in keeping with the food and vague sarcasm style of the expression "sliced bread".
Sliced bread is cool! The big gadget that slices them all evenly so none are too thick or too thin (very important for fitting the sweetbread into the toaster at the bakery...). And having bread in a plastic bag that keeps for a week or more without going stale. What could be more "american"? You and your fancy european breads that you have to slice yourself and that go bad in a day. Silly rabbit.

And when do I get to hear any Bic Runga myself? Quoting obscure New Zealand singers is not helpful to us local cultural barbarians.

Weeeeell... soon, soon my friend. Or, alternatively, you could go to www.bicrunga.com
