Short Protest Observation

So... like I've said, I was in DC over the weekend. So were a whole bunch of protesters. One of the things that both [livejournal.com profile] tanaise and I noticed were that both pro-peace and pro-war people used a sign that said "Remember 9/11". I'm not sure it was *exactly* the same sign, but I can't really recall. And I was thinking how interesting it is that that slogan can be used to support pretty much anything depending on the opinion of the person who is using it.

Know what I remember from 9/11? The first thing that comes to mind? How when I left the WTC at 8:30 that morning the sky was this simply amazing color of blue and I was thinking about how gorgeous it was out, that I definitely wanted to go have a picnic that afternoon when I got home. I don't think this is what either side meant with their signs though.

Well, not to mention this whole Iraq thing has nothing to do with 9/11.

I remember you calling the lab here to tell [livejournal.com profile] astrophysicat that you were coming home, because a plane had just flown into the world trade center. It was around 8:10am and it was such a surreal message. CNN and NYT websites were already down by the time. Then my sister called to tell me the rest of the bad news...

What do you think of the plans for the site, by the way?
