Short Protest Observation

So... like I've said, I was in DC over the weekend. So were a whole bunch of protesters. One of the things that both tanaise and I noticed were that both pro-peace and pro-war people used a sign that said "Remember 9/11". I'm not sure it was *exactly* the same sign, but I can't really recall. And I was thinking how interesting it is that that slogan can be used to support pretty much anything depending on the opinion of the person who is using it.

Know what I remember from 9/11? The first thing that comes to mind? How when I left the WTC at 8:30 that morning the sky was this simply amazing color of blue and I was thinking about how gorgeous it was out, that I definitely wanted to go have a picnic that afternoon when I got home. I don't think this is what either side meant with their signs though.

Well, not to mention this whole Iraq thing has nothing to do with 9/11.

Well, if you go with the whole "interconnectedness of all life in the universe" theory, *everything* has something to do with 9/11.

Mmmmn, yeah. Absolutely. I work a couple of blocks away, and I used to commute through there. I miss running down the huge staircase there, actually, very much. That was a long, bad day.

I think about it a lot, the buildings, not the day, 'cause the bus I take leaves from the corner there, so every day for about 10 minutes I vacantly stare at the hole (or more accurately, the construction site). Though yesterday there was this "when pigeons attack" moment with people in line which kind of kept my attention riveted.

I remember you calling the lab here to tell astrophysicat that you were coming home, because a plane had just flown into the world trade center. It was around 8:10am and it was such a surreal message. CNN and NYT websites were already down by the time. Then my sister called to tell me the rest of the bad news...

What do you think of the plans for the site, by the way?

Yeah, and then I didn't get home till around 11. My own fault though, I should've really asserted myself and just split from my boss.

But anyway, I don't actually know what the latest plans are. I wish they'd put something big there though, it's such a... huge hole in the ground. Like a gaping wound really.
