podling: (Bite me!)

So last night I called my mom to ask her where I'd be able to find a particular kind of headband that would keep my hair out of my face while I'm working out, since I don't feel like just going shopping until I find one. So here's how the conversation went...

Mom: Why don't you just put your hair in a ponytail?

Me: It's not long enough, it still gets in my eyes.

Mom: How about lots of little ponytails?

Me: So I'd look like a weird muppet?

Mom: No, I was thinking more along the lines of Pebbles.

Me: I don't think I should be trying to look like Pebbles!

Mom: Sure! You could have a little pigtail right in the center of your head too!

Me: I don't want to look like Pebbles!!!

A bandana would do the trick. You could just make a triangle out of it and roll it up, tie it around your head and shove it back.

Hair managed.

errrrrr

How much jumping around are you doing?

Try this. Go to a beauty supply store or CVS and look around for hair stuff. They should have something.

Well, there is an easy way to find out, you know.

I tend to use the babushka style handkerchief thing for my hair fairly often, and in my hair, if I tie it snugly enough, it holds nicely even in activity. I don't know about 'jumping around,' though, since I don't.

If you're playing DDR, then a bandana probably won't stay unless you pin it. If you can't find a stretchy one (and even that kind starts to slip out when I play DDR, and I have to pause between songs to put it in place again), you could use a bandana held in with bobby pins. The secret is to use four bobby pins, two for each side, and to cross them. That is, put one in at an angle, then put the next one in so that it goes across the first bobby pin and they form an X. Then do the same on the other side of your face. That holds pretty well, even in my slippery and uncooperative hair.

You wimminfolk require extraordinary logistical skill just to make through a day, don't you??

Sometimes, we surely do.

How are you, by the way?

I'm not sure that I'm here.

If the stretchy headband you got is fabric (rather than beads with elastic or whatever), then you can use clips to hold it in place. You know those kind that pop open when you bend them one way, and close when you bend them the other? One of those on each side holds really well. I did that this weekend, and it held through 500 calories of bouncing around playing DDR without slipping at all.
