Well, so today was psycho busy and so was yesterday, and so will the weekend be... etc. etc. Neil. is. fabulous. the concert. excellent. yes.

Anyway, work sucked today in some ways, but was decent in others. I was still on a high from the concert, so that was good, but I have to call down the wrath of my boss on someone on Monday. This guy seems to think that following procedure dictated by internal audit is optional. He's wrong, end of story. He's rude about it too, but he'll see how far that gets him. Oh yes, I've lulled him into a false sense of security, but whatever.

Zippy the podmobile is just a few short weeks of it's birthday (Aug 17th) but it hit 50,000 miles today. This randomly coincided with an oil change. All systems are set to go.

And then I zipped over to the Harp festival, where Wayne and Jo are to say hello. Heh. It was cool seeing them, seeing as how I almost missed them coming to town entirely and think they're way nifty cool and stuff and hadn't seen them in a year!

So now I'm in the midst of vaguely planning the Boston thing. All I know for sure is that I'm going to the concert. And that other people are going too. And I might get to meet up with some people I haven't seen in a while. And my brother wants to set me up with someone while I'm there too. That might be interesting...

Umm, I'm rambling. I'll just stop now...

I think everyone needs to do this... it's a fabulous art project. I'm debating it myself...

So I keep coming back to this in my head...

What was the best thing *before* sliced bread?

So I meant to post this a while back actually. I say that everything is weird. And the word has kind of lost it's meaning. But what I really mean when I say, "That's weird" is actually, "That's curious" but in most situations saying, "Now, that's curious" would sound weird. So I don't know what to say anymore, except that the whole thing is both curious and weird.

Okay, so this is weird. The latest cd I ordered from New Zealand is Bic Runga's new one. So apparently it's debuting at #1 in New Zealand and is already instantly platinum. Weird. So I have the best selling new release in New Zealand on it's way to my house. Supposedly it's really, really good. And though I didn't know this when I ordered it, Neil Finn is all over it doing backing vocals too. Go figure.

So like I said yesterday, work is evil. And tomorrow it'll be even more so, because tomorrow is Evacuation Drill Day!!! Yay! Well, it *is* a safety concern, they want to ensure we could all get out and away if necessary... it's kind of creepy though. I mean, even though it's not a real emergency, I think it'll be really strange.

I'd also like to point out that I've been working late. Till 5:30 today even...

thank you.

Work was so evil today!

But [livejournal.com profile] astrophysicat had a very happy work day, so we went out to celebrate (for her) and destress (that would be for me) and then hit best buy on the way back. Several DVDs and 2 cds later (happiness is a new cd) we eventually had to leave the store.

But so we now have the soundtrack to both Resident Evil and Zoolander. On the surface, these movies aren't that similar (one being about zombies, the other being about models... oh, never mind), but they do actually have at least one person on the soundtrack that's the same. And both movies have Milla in them, which we somehow didn't remember until we were at home looking at all the Milla pics on the cds. Milla, Milla, she's so hot!!! Yeah! And then I realized I also have the Fifth Element soundtrack. Hmmn. A trend?

Oh! So I found the little color codey thing for my mood ring. Of course, I forgot to wear the ring today, so it's not as useful as you'd hope. Ah well...

My finger hurts where I hit it with a hammer building furniture yesterday. Owie!

And I found that the stereo can sometimes be turned up using the volume knob. You just have to move it really, really, no, really slowly. Painfully slow. But at least it's possible.

Speaking of which. I wish I was at home using my stereo right now. Eh. Work. Eh.

So we're going to see Neil Finn 3 times. In 3 different states. In one week. Philly, NYC, then Boston. There's been another NYC show added, but we're not going to that because, you know, that'd be excessive. I mean, 3 shows, sure, but 4! Out of the question!

Okay, scenario and question for y'all. So I buy cd imports (from NZ and AU mostly) and this one company emails me whenever they have something new I might want. And I usually do want what they're offering. My roommate pointed out that that kind of email is usually considered spam, but given that I do actually want the stuff, is it really spam? Do other people get offers like that that they actually want? Or is my music addiction just a bit overdeveloped?

In related news, I'll be getting a new cd from NZ sometimes soon. heh.

Some evil thing has invaded my stereo and made it so that no matter which way you turn the volume knob, the volume just gets lower and lower. It's evil, I say!!! And I have the stereo on ALL THE TIME!!! I can still use the remote to turn it up, but what happens if I lose that???

So I reached out and touched someone for help and the nice folks at aiwa told me to unplug it for 24 hours, to hopefully reset the internal thingamajiggy to factory standard. This actually seems likely to work, given that I first noticed this issue after we had 5 consecutive power surges/outages/whatevers. Rat Bastard Goat Demons!!!!!!

I must think happy thoughts. The stereo will be okay.

Okay, so it wasn't really long or a true expedition. But it was a camp! Anyway, so this past weekend me and my flunkies, umm, I mean, friends, of course, went camping in beautiful Truro, MA (near P-town, tip o' Cape Cod) at this campground that was totally fabulous! See http://www.capecodcamping.com for details. Anyway, we were by far not as equipped as most of the people there, some of whom live there over the summer. We're talking big RVs, little tent villages, hammocks, the works! Anyway, we (that being me, [livejournal.com profile] astrophysicat, and yoshikin (name changed to protect the not-so-innocent)) had our little 2 tent minimalistic campsite and were perfectly happy with it.

The beach was all of a 5 minute walk away. We could hear it at all times. Well, except for during the way cool thunderstorm!!! But anyway, we did beachy stuff, we all went sea kayaking (ohmigawd, how fun!) and shopping (I got this great pair of wine colored knee high boots kind of reminiscent of Wonder Woman for $20, and will have them at Dragon*con, for those going there. They actually look really good on me, I was so surprised!), and did other not so related to camping activities, like eating out at nice restaurants in P-town. Note: Marshmallow fudge really does taste like frosting. Like I need more sugar in my life, I was so punch happy... Anyway, we also had a town/campsite sponsored private beach fire thing going on, which totally rocked!

All in all, there were lots of spiffy things about this vacation...

I viciously killed a mosquito with a fork. In the woods. More later...

My mood

So sometimes simple things really are the things that make life worth living. [livejournal.com profile] astrophysicat brought me home this way niftycool mood ring from Martha's Vineyard. It's not one of those ones with the bubble glass thing on it, it's a full band that changes color. Pretty much constantly too. It's provided me with hours of amusement already. On the bus... at work... at home...

The real question, does it accurately interpret my moods? Good question, given that I don't have the color chart. So I pretty much think every color means happy (well, happy and freaking hot!!!). But does the color reflect my innate happiness? Or am I happy because I'm looking at the cool color changing properties of the ring?

Do I just expect too much from life?

Devil Dice. I'm entering one of my obsessed with Devil Dice phases again. I've been thinking about it all day at work (work has been hellishly busy lately, eh! evilness!). But I enter the most zen-like state while playing. Oh, the flashing colors...

Who'd have thought that those paper lightsaber yoyo things would provide so much entertainment in life? Between that and www.reasonablyclever.com, it's a wonder I find time to do anything else. Anyway, I scared Cara (who wants to be called astrophysicat online now) by shooting the yoyo things past her head on either side. Then I convinced her and a friend that they should watch "Lair of the White Worm". Maybe I *am* evil after all.
podling: (Default)
That bitchwhore [livejournal.com profile] tanaise put me up to this... Actually, she set it up and forced me into it is a better way of putting it. But I miss her, so I'll humor her. She told me to say something witty, but after watching Zoolander for the 8th time, I really don't feel I can manage it. So there.
