Sometimes when people speak to me, I hear something entirely different.

Sometimes this amuses me.

Sometimes it's just weird.

I just heard the chef here say, "Is Tom a Chinese monkey?"

I'm pretty sure that's not actually what he said. Not a hundred percent, but... yeah.

Gosh, I passed by a conversation and wanted to jump in after hearing, "Well, only 5% of the world is allergic to surgical steel."

No, I heard the rest of the conversation, and it didn't involve anything about monkeys or even anything Chinese. It did involve where Tom was though...

And did they mean 5% of people, or 5% of everything? And if the latter, how did they *know* that???

In a quick swoop back I think they were talking about metal detectors at airports, and piercings setting them off. And somebody made that off hand comment. I don't know how they knew that. It's so danged interesting and a curiosity sparker.
