Classic Sci-Fi thing
Jul. 21st, 2006 12:56 pmSo I'm planning on having a movie watching party dedicated to classic sci-fi of a certain era. If'n you are interested in attending, please let me know here or via email.
Likely this will take place in mid to late September. Eventually I'll send out an evite, but it will be probably have to be kind of limited due to space where I'm having it (which won't be at my condo, but will be nearby).
Potential movies include the following list:
Soylent Green
Omega Man
The Andromeda Strain
Silent Running
Logan's Run
Rollerball (original)
Westworld
If you have suggestions for other movies, please enlighten.
Also, there may be a early (earlier the same day) showing of Death Race 2000, early so that only those who really want to watch it will be subjected to it. Ta.

Date: 2006-07-21 06:54 pm (UTC)The Black Hole; I remember seeing that in the cinema, mainly because we were so rarely able to afford to go that it really impressed me.
Tron!
Close Encounters of the Third Kind!!
And you have to get hold of the brilliant, brilliant series Space: 1999. Hell, I have to get a copy of that. Oh, and of the series Survivors.
And, when you say "classic", are you just sticking with late-60s to early-80s, or are you hurling yourself head-first into the cornucopia of classic sci-fi from the 50s into the early 60s? Klaatu barada nikto!

Date: 2006-07-24 05:52 pm (UTC)It's probably more accurate to say that I want to watch post-apocalyptic or dystopic movies, but pre- Road Warrior/Mad Max, because that would just lead to an even huger set of movies to choose from.

Date: 2006-07-22 12:00 am (UTC)So, are we talking about primarily sci-fi films from the age before Star Wars made space-opera mainstream? *grin* If so, I suppose _Flash Gordon_ wouldn't quite fit. (The one with the Queen soundtrack) Although _Escape to Witch Mountain_ could be good for a laugh.
There's also _The Man who Fell to Earth_ and so on.
And why, oh why aren't _Forbidden Planet_, _Planet of the Apes_, or _Invasion of the Body Snatchers_ on that list?
Too well known?

Date: 2006-07-24 05:49 pm (UTC)Now, the original way we came up with it was a few things I hadn't see, a few things one or two other people hadn't see, as well as things netflix recommended as like the things we had listed. Personally, I would like to watch any of those (especially Planet of the Apes! and I've never seen Forbidden Planet, I know, shocking), but it almost seems like it would have to be a regular monthly or bimonthly thing to get all of them in. I actually assume that 4 or 5 movies will be the max we'll be able to watch.
But I will let you know. At this point it seems that it will likely be either the 3rd or 4th Saturday in September, but I will keep you posted!
