I've noticed that since I started actually getting paid to proofread things, I care less about mistakes in published books. I wonder why? Am I going backwards mentally?

Probably because you realize just HOW MANY mistakes would actually be in there if it hadn't been proofread to begin with...

Good point. Plus, now that I think about, I also know how much worse some of those mistakes probably were. ie, mother and mouth are NOT the same word...
