Lunch break poll, Appliance vs. Italy

So a quick poll. I already think I know what my decision is, but tanaise told me I should make more polls (don't worry, my paid thingy ends in like, 2 weeks, so it won't last long) and that this would make an ideal subject.

Okay. I have little money but I have dreams! Anyway, for my b-day next year (which is 10 months away) my parents had decided to send me away. They'd started with Florida, but then when I expressed an interest in going to Italy, they jumped on that bandwagon. So they decided to provide me with $1000. But the trip I wanted to take will by itself (ie without airfare or spending money) cost $1300. I would anticipate that I'd need to save a bit on my own, which is unlikely and laughable at this point in my non-cable-affording universe. So they came up with an alternate plan of replacing some of my broken or soon to be broken appliances (washer, dryer, and stereo). So I need to decide what I want to do.

Short version... I will have money to do something with, and that something is not to include paying off my student loans. What should I do with it? And no, giving it to people isn't going to be the answer I go with. ;)

I'm really leaning towards Italy. However, I voted for something else... If you feel guilty about Italy, maybe a trip to someplace a little closer and buy one appliance?

Heck, a decent washer/dryer could wipe out $1000 fast. :(

Yeah, the problem is that I need to get stackable, and I want to have full-size stackable like my current (yet ancient) ones are. The ones I want are anywhere from 700-950. So.

I mean, the other thing is that I can still travel somewhere cheap during the year with my own money, and I plan to do that. I may even end up visiting the UK, because I can stay there free or cheaply, you know? But Italy... as much as I want it, it's just that smidgeon out of reach at the moment.

Being an adult is so vexacious. Bleh to responsibilities!

Yeah, I had to have stackables in my condo, and they're not cheap. I know. I remember Sears having good prices on them at the time.

Oh, and it's not Italy, but it can be pretty cheap to get to France from England... :)

When you rent your place, just make sure you allow for a repair fund in the rent. I did that, and it helped a lot.

Buy used applicances and go to Italy. I had a avocado green washer that I paid $100 for that lasted like 5 years.

Travel is always the best thing to do with extra money anyway.

I know, I know. And I want to travel! But... well... see, the thing is, I'm thinking of moving out of my place and renting it out. Which means anything that breaks would be my responsibility, so I was going to go with something new so I can get the warranty type stuff on it. Except I love my condo, so I don't know if I can leave. So indecisive on it all!

It's a simple problem, if only you had substantially more or substantially less money. On your next trip up to your parents, stop in Foxwoods, and place $800 on Roulette's 1:2 odds. This way, you'll either have $1800 which lets you buy new appliances and go on a trip, or $200 with which you'll still have enough for a new stereo or CDs. Plus, you get to look like a high roller for 2 minutes.
