Aug. 20th, 2004 01:19 pmSo I took this 3rd Grade US Test (stolen shamelessly from
girldetective) and you know, it's funny, the first 2 times I took it, I had problems with the grey area states, between the coasts and places I've been. I got all the border ones right off, and everyplace I'd actually visited, but then there was the dead center... So sad. But it makes me reconsider, maybe there *is* something besides grey space there.
For the Rutgers people, or just people who like to read stupid stories of NJ, Fat Darrell. Number one sandwich in the US. Mmmn. Tasty. Possibly not good for you. I should see if they'll sell it at work as a promotion. Heh.
I started my first ever freelance proofreading type thing the other day. And it's disturbing. I mean, the teacher had said something about how we'd never find as many mistakes in a real document, and intellectually I understood that but it's still kind of disconcerting to not find all that many mistakes. I must be missing stuff, and yeah, I know, that's insecurity speaking, but you know, when the editor gets it back and asks me what kind of crack I take... well, okay, she's generally more tactful, but she'll still be like, "Loser!" in her head.
I'm also in the middle of doing scenic design for a production of The Wizard of Oz. I figure I'm about a fifth of the way through. So far it's very green. Very VERY Verdant, if you will. I got a good portion of the paint in the Home Depot Oops section. What... interesting... colors people select and then reject.
I took the day off on Tuesday to spend some quality time at the beach house owned by
astrophysicat's aunt & uncle. While there I got to see some Olympic kayaking action. And may I just say whoa. That was cool. I'm starting to think I lost my kayaking mojo, but maybe if I actually arrange to go on a real trip it won't be an issue. But no, I'll never be able to do that. Nuh uh.
Today, providing it doesn't rain, should be the day that they finish painting my deck, which is good because my tomato plants scream how much they hate me every time I walk in. Okay, maybe not, but I can tell that they really dislike me anyway. It hasn't been a good week for them, nope. Poor, poor tomato plants.
People keep telling me how much weight I've lost, and honestly, it's kind of disturbing. I mean, yeah, I know it's supposed to be complimentary, but it's still a bit odd. Someone actually said they almost didn't recognize me, which is just silly since I don't really look all that different, but does lend more credence to my theory that people inflate me in their heads when I'm not around. Of course, the only person who will admit to this is
tanaise but still.
Soon, soon, my early b-day present to myself, the new Finn Bros. cd will be on it's way to me. Oh happy day! I keep seeing reviews in random newspapers. You know, like the NY Times or the Independent News. Good reviews, so can't wait!
