Decor & my costume (mememe!!!)

podlingThe bat decor went over really well at Andrea*Con. I think Cara described it already, but I'll just say this... 150 construction paper bats, 13' ceiling. We hid the remotes to the ceiling fans to avoid bat carnage. Besides which, watching people blow air upwards to try to move them was hysterical. Oh, and there was a huge spider that we borrowed from Tony lurking in the downstairs bathroom hanging upside down from a web over the sink. Freaked a few people out, it did. Hee!
On to my costume (as it's all about me), black bra, black pants, gold glitter, black & gold venetian carnival mask, and jewelry. Oh, and candy apple colored lipstick. Because I wanted my lips to look edible. And really, asking people if your lips look edible *does* provide the most amusement... Anyway, glitter. I bought this glitter powder that worked amazingly well. Had good staying power, made me all sparkly when light hit me.

jennywrenn lent me some glitter stuff from Hot Topic to make accents with, and I put it raying out from my eyes and on my eyelids. Then I promptly had a vicious skin reaction to it, which I luckily noticed quickly then washed it off several times with eye makeup remover. I looked like someone had raked fingernails out from my eyes. This is when I was really grateful I was wearing a mask. So, just to make sure that it didn't get worse, I popped a benadryl, redid my eyes sans glitter stuff, finished up the rest and went downstairs. (I feel it's important to not let things like this break your stride. Even though I looked scary without the mask for a while, it was no big deal. It faded within hours.)
I had a brief self-conscious "I don't want people to see me!!" moment, overcame it, resumed my party persona and went in. And people appreciated the costume, I think. The pizza delivery guy certainly did.littlfrogling would've preferred a "less fabric, more andrea" costume, but still. So there was fun times, little bit of dancing (me & one or two or so others), pictures, drinking, all in all fun...
And then after midnight, Muppets from Space. Which I of course fell asleep during, but in my defense, I've seen it before, and I was kind of drunk and comfortably (for me, anyway) sandwiched between 2 guys named justin on the couch.
